KNIFE SAFETY RULES

Rule number one of safety involving knives is: a sharp knife is a safe knife. This being because a dull knife being much more difficult to manipulate and therefore, more dangerous. Surprisingly if you do cut yourself, a wound created by a sharp knife is much easier to attend to than a wound created by a dull knife.

It is not necessary for me to say that grabbing a falling knife is never recommended. However, for those with quick reflects and slower thinking, it must be said. Also, use the correct knife for the belonging job! Do NOT use a giant chef knife to peel an orange when you know there's a bird's beak in your drawer but you are too lazy to go and get it!

When using a knife is is crucial to cut away from your body. Not only that, but it is also important to never take your eyes off of the blade. It takes a second for you to glance at your television and accidentally slice a piece of your thumb off while peeling an orange!

Not only is a knife a danger to you, but to everyone around you as well. When moving from one place to another while holding a knife you need to make sure you are carrying it properly no matter the size. You must embed the idea into your mind that you cannot carry a knife unless you are holding the blade facing downward bs facing your thigh.

Last but not least, you must never wash a knife in a sink full of water and only cut on a cutting board. Your child may reach into the sink after you asked them to wash the dishes and accidentally receive a puncture wound from the hidden knife. Additionally, not only does not using a cutting board damage the blade of the knife, but it can also endanger you for not cutting on the proper surface.
